"Graduating Our Future" Creating Promising Results

A pilot program of Graduating Our Future at Parkland High School, United Way's breakthrough initiative to improve local high school graduation rates to 90 percent by 2018, is producing significant academic improvement.  Even though the program was implemented less than five months from the end of the 2007-08 school year, the Parkland graduation rate improved by two percentage points. The number of students passing the annual writing test improved by nearly 60 percent. There was more than a 35 percent increase in students passing geometry, and the number of ninth graders retained dropped by 29 percent. (More)

Prosperity Center Producing Jobs, Providing Counseling

 

Since April, 40 people have new jobs and an additional 49 have received valuable credit/debt counseling through The Prosperity Center and Career Connections. Over 300 individuals have been assisted with resumes, on-line applications, job leads and career counseling. The Center, a United Way Breakthrough Initiative to improve financial stability, is a collaborative effort led by Goodwill Industries with partners Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Family Services, Experiment in Self-Reliance, and the Center for Homeownership.
